Fake Health Plans Prey on the Vulnerable (06/04/09) In an economic climate where people are being laid off and losing their health insurance, CNN is reporting that health care scams are on the rise. A common scam involves signing up for a medical "discount card," usually for a monthly fee, that offers reduced rates for doctor visits, hospital stays, prescription drugs, and other treatments. These fake programs bill themselves as a cheaper alternative to purchasing health insurance.

The Truth About Cell Phones and the Do Not Call Registry (4/1/08) The Federal Trade Commission today reiterated that despite the claims made in e-mails circulating on the Internet, consumers should not be concerned that their cell phone numbers will be released to telemarketers in the near future, and that it is not necessary to register cell phone numbers on the National Do Not Call (DNC) Registry to be protected from most telemarketing calls to cell phones.

Avoid Traveling Sales Crews this June (6/01/07) Many people get their start as door-to-door sales professionals employed by reputable companies. Some young people, however, are recruited by unethical companies to join traveling sales crews, predatory and dangerous sales "opportunities" presented by unscrupulous adults.
